I hope this newsletter finds you, along with your family, healthy and well. It's good to be grateful for all that we have. Something I wanted to share with you was how much fun I had taking all our staff fishing for our Christmas function in December. Yes it may seem many of my stories revolve around fishing these days, but as the days get a little cooler I remember the excitement of taking some newbie (and others not so newbie) fisher women out to see what we could catch in the beautiful Waitemata Harbour. The afternoon blessed us with a whopping number of fish (we caught our limit within three hours), and what with having to fillet them all (a few eaten, most taken home and shared with friends) dinner didn't end up being served until well and truly after ten pm. And yet what a great day it was.

I don't know how this is for you, but for me it seems all my children are constantly in competition with each other - including the rate at which they lose their baby teeth! In fact, while on holiday I witnessed each of them losing a front tooth, and all within the space of an hour as they egged each other on to win the competition for the most teeth out. Of course this had me bemused to say the least as I rushed from one child to the other, swabbing their mouths and listening to how they would spend their winnings from the tooth fairy.

It's amazing how much children are markers of time, and it's also crazy how quickly your children grow up, my own included. I want to take this opportunity to reiterate that prevention is the best treatment when it comes to dentistry and a current concern of ours is that once our young adults leave the free government funded dental care at age 18 they often don't go to the dentist again until something starts to cause them bother - at which stage it can be too late!

To encourage the young adults in our community to come in for regular dental check-ups we are now offering a young adult program. If you are 18-25 (or know someone who is) for the great value of $89 you can see our Hygienist Grace for a professional polish, some excellent homecare advice and for a limited time this appointment includes an examination with Dr. Priya!! For new patients their first visit will additionally include x-rays free of charge (valued at $80). Appointments for this will be available Monday evenings from 5.30pm, and are also available to current patients within this age bracket.

Incidentally Grace is putting on an Oral Health Information Evening for the 18-25ers on Tuesday 29th of March, with details on Facebook.

I believe relationships are the heart of life, and our hearts go out to those of you with Christchurch connections. New Zealand is a small country, never more so at times like these, and our connection to others is what makes life so truly special. Keep on doing what you do well.

"Hi Matt, Thank you, your advice to replace those old amalgam fillings was the best thing I have done in years of enduring discomfort from my well drilled, mercury filled teeth. Great professional advice and a great result."
