Hi I'm Dr. Matthew Sumner to my accountant, but most people call me Matt.

I graduated in 1992 from the University of Otago in Dentistry. Following a spell of facial reconstruction at Waikato Hospital and a 6-year working stint in London, I returned home to run Accent Dental Solutions in 2002.

My patients come to me knowing I have their best interests at heart. Every new patient I see will sit down with me for a one-hour appointment, so that I can get to know them, and what's important to them, and they can get to know me. It's all about building a lasting relationship. I won't tell you what to do - I'll give you options, and you choose what's best for you.

I do a lot of general dentistry (Preventative and Restorative work), although I confess that my particular interest lies in Cosmetic dentistry that is so natural looking people can't even tell it's been done. I love that I can light up someone's life through creating a gorgeous smile.

I really enjoy working in Ponsonby, Auckland and putting my energy into the vibrant, close-knit community we have.  It's great to be known as the Ponsonby dentist. Ponsonby is full of interesting characters, and it's an easy place to catch up with friends, colleagues and patients at a café, bar or here at work.

Outside of work, my life is starting to become more relaxed as my twin boys, Joshua and Benjamin recently started school, joining their older sister Gabrielle there. I enjoy cooking, golf and working on my garden. If I have any time left, you'll tend to find me out fishing or diving, as I love the calm of being near or in water.
